Colorado - Utah Trip 2014

Part 6: Buena Vista

July 13th

On Sunday morning we cleared out of our motel room at Ouray and started on our journey toward home. With heads hung low, we ate our breakfast, packed our bags, and carried them out to Dad's van. The sniffles and weeping were plainly evident....     Boy, you people will believe ANYTHING, WON'T YOU??    Actually, we had one last adventure to face, whitewater rafting in Brown's Canyon near Buena Vista, Colorado.

This was an entirely new experience for me and I didn't really know what to expect, but it was fantastic!  I highly recommend giving this a whirl if you ever get the chance. Brown's Canyon was a good place for a first timer, as the big obstacles were spread out and they didn't all come at once, one after the other. You'd get a bit of an adrenaline rush, then it would be easy going for a little bit before you'd catch another dose. There are a number of companies providing rafting tours in the area, and the folks at Brown's Canyon Rafting did a great job for us. There is not much more that I can say about the rafting trip, except that it was GREAT! So, I will just post the photos, some with commentary, and some without. These photos were taken by BCR's own photographer, and we were able to purchase the CD for something like $25. At first that sounds expensive, but think about it...  what kind of pics would you get while you are in the raft???   What if you lose your camera?  Besides, when you get to the whitewater you're too doggone busy to be snapping photos.  $25 was cheap, but I could see getting a GoPro video camera before doing this again.

Whitewater rafting in Brown's Canyon, Buena Vista, Colorado Take a close look and you will see an orange sneaker sticking up in the air. There was a little girl beneath that shoe. She slipped over backwards and had to stay there holding on for dear life until we got to calmer water so she could sit up and move here to a different seat.

After completing our three hour water ride, we headed into Denver, then on out to Fort Morgan for supper and our motel for the night.

We left from Fort Morgan in the morning, stopped in North Platte, Nebraska for lunch, then headed north through the sand hills and up into South Dakota on our way home.

We were gone almost two weeks, but it seemed like only a couple of days. I guess that means we had a great time! Many thanks to our hosts, Bill and Kathy. Visits to your home are always highly cherished!

A word of advice to my friends and relatives: If you can get the chance to travel with a parent, DO IT!!  This was the trip of a lifetime, it was like no other.

To my viewers, thanks for visiting!!

Special thanks to my brother Rick for his advice on our motel and Jeep rental in Moab.

Finally, thanks to my Dad for a trip that will not be forgotten!
